OctoBer 10, 2022

“Cliftine was inspired by Briana A. Thomas’ book and wanted to bring this important Black  history to the stage. This production has been seen in DC at the Women’s National Democratic Club and the Arts Club, and MetroStage is pleased to be presenting it at The Lyceum here in Alexandria to our friends and patrons.”- Carolyn Griffin

Celebrate the history of DC with musical flashbacks inspired by the Black performers who made DC swing, hailing legends like Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington, Billy Eckstine, Pearl Bailey, Cab Calloway and more.

Featuring performances by MetroStage favorite Roz White (currently in the national tour of Tina - The Tina Turner Musical), Steve Washington, Thad Wilson and others.

Meet Briana A. Thomas, author of Black Broadway in Washington, D.C., highlighting the neighborhood’s rich and unique history: it’s art, entertainment, and commerce.

Monday’s Black Broadway was just terrific. Your very talented performers displayed their considerable talent in a well-paced, relatable, highly entertaining, suspenseful (how will Pearl Bailey and Louis Armstrong show up?). Well done. Many thanks.
