MetroStage at the Lyceum

Please Note: Charles Williams and daughter Lynne On Stage at the Lyceum Cancelled. Tickets will be transferred to "I Wish It So"

Tue, Dec 20, 7:00 PM

I must share with you the very sad news that our dear friend and colleague Charles Williams has passed away. We had been looking forward to his cabaret with daughter Lynne Ann Williams next week as part of the MetroStage at the Lyceum series. Instead we have substituted it with Susan Derry and Howard Breitbart performing “I Wish It So”.

An unforgettable evening as joyful and diverse as it is touching and emotional. With musical direction by DC's favorite pianist Howard Breitbart, "I Wish It So" embraces this time of year with unexpected classics, holiday favorites, and great American standards. Record-setting at its 2020 debut, it became a holiday album.

With a mix of vulnerability and strength, charm and good humor, Susan Derry brings authenticity to her work as an actor and cabaret artist. A Broadway veteran and DC stage regular, she dazzles as leading lady, singer, storyteller, and recording artist.

Susan Derry’s Broadway credits include Wonderful Town and 14 productions with City Center's Encores! series.  She played Christine in The Phantom of the Opera  in Hamburg, Germany, and has graced numerous stages around the country. Here in DC Susan has appeared at  Signature, Shakespeare Theatre, in Creative Cauldron's Bold New Works Series among many others; at the Keegan Theatre she starred as Francesca in The Bridges of Madison County. Susan is the creator of six one-woman shows and was nominated for a Best Cabaret Debut Show Award in 2021 by BroadwayWorld. She is also the co-founder of UrbanArias, DC’s contemporary opera company. Concert work includes Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Utah Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, and the New York Philharmonic.  Adjunct Prof of Voice at American University.  Northwestern University; Manhattan School of Music. susanderry.com.

Howard Breitbart (musical director, arranger, pianist)...A native of Miami, FL, Howard received his music degree in piano performance from The University of Maryland. He toured with the political satire troupe "The Capitol Steps" for 27 years, and he is now performing with a new group, The Reflecting Fools. Howard accompanied Norm Lewis at the Kennedy Center's Eisenhower Theatre and Susan Derry at Feinstein's 54 Below in NYC. Howard music directed "Closer Than Ever", “Broadway Christmas Carol”, and “Last Five Years” at MetroStage, "Caroline or Change" at Studio Theatre, "Christmas Carol" at Ford's Theatre, “Broadway Holiday” at Classic Theatre of Maryland, "Most Happy Fellow" at Palm Beach Dramaworks, Palm Beach, FL. and many other productions and cabarets.
