Celebrate the festive season in a fun-filled entertainment, through music, song, and the lyrical prose of Dylan Thomas’ beloved masterpiece – A Child’s Christmas in Wales.
Join Catherine Flye, Bob McDonald and pianist Joe Walsh, all last seen in Christmas at the Old Bull and Bush in our former theatre. And of course there will be a ‘Child’. Introducing young Augie Levy. A wonderful way to celebrate the holidays in the lovely concert hall at The Lyceum, currently MetroStage’s second home. You may even have an opportunity to sing along with these remarkable performers.
BIOS
CATHERINE FLYE
Catherine is happy to be back at MetroStage, where she has appeared in several productions, including Rapture, for which she received a Helen Hayes nomination, SeaMarks, For the Pleasure of Seeing Her Again, The Crummel’s Christmas Carol, The Real Inspector Hound, George Don’t Do That!, Shakespeare’s Will and Christmas at the Old Bull and Bush. She graduated from London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and has worked extensively in the Washington DC metropolitan area, writing, acting and directing. Acting credits include principal roles at many theatres in Washington DC, including The Folger, The Shakespeare Theatre and Arena Stage. As Artistic Director of Interact Theatre Company, she wrote and produced over 45 commissioned plays and entertainments. She has been nominated thirteen times for Washington’s Helen Hayes Awards and her production of The Pirates of Penzance won the Award for Outstanding Musical. She is a recipient of The Mary Goldwater Award for her contribution to theatre in the Washington metropolitan area, and in 2019 she received the Anderson Hopkins Award for Excellence in the Theatre Arts.
BOB MCDONALD
SGM (Ret) Bob McDonald, Baritone, served as Group Leader, as a member of the U.S. Army Chorus for over 26 years, retiring in 2020. In this capacity he performed regularly at the White House, and for visiting dignitaries from across the globe. Bob was seen at MetroStage in Christmas at the Old Bull and Bush and George Don’t Do That!. and he has performed at the Kennedy Center, Signature Theatre, Wolf Trap, Strathmore, Arena, The Folger Theatre and with Interact Theatre. Company. Bob is a regular fixture of the DC musical theatre scene and in cabaret with his popular Sinatra tribute show. Bob is a familiar face to Washington Capitals fans, currently in his 32nd season of singing the hockey team's National Anthem. He has also sung the National Anthem for many other professional sports events across the country, including the Super Bowl, and the World Series.
AUGUST LEVY
August (Augie) Levy is a fifth grader at Browne Academy in Alexandria. He spent last summer at theatre camps with Shakespeare Theatre Company, where he played Ferdinand in The Tempest, and also Theatre Lab DC. This is his first professional show. In addition to theatre, he enjoys baseball, reading, and spending time in the woods. He'd like to thank Ms Flye for this amazing opportunity and all of her support.
JOE WALSH
Joe is an accomplished conductor, music director and pianist having recently worked on Master Class, Christmas at the Old Bull and Bush and George, Don’t Do That! at MetroStage. He conducted The Pirates of Penzance at Riverside Dinner Theater He has been music director with the In Series in Washington D.C. as well as conductor at the Amalfi Coast Music Festival for five summers. Joe was involved in the musical preparation of more than 65 productions at Virginia Opera, where he served for 17 years. He is Associate Professor of Music and Theater at George Mason University where, having served as music director for 9 to 5, Head Over Heels, Footloose, Rags and conducted opera productions, including La Bohème, The Marriage of Figaro and The Magic Flute. He has been music director at The Delaware Children’s Theatre and Three Little Bakers Dinner Theater in Wilmington, Delaware. Joe is an active recitalist, accompanying both classical voice recitals and Broadway cabarets. He is thrilled to be back at MetroStage with this production of A Child’s Christmas in Wales.

MetroStage, Alexandria’s professional not-for-profit theatre company dedicated to offering productions of the highest artistic level for 40 years, proudly announces the appointment of Ricardo Alfaro as the new President of the Board of Trustees. Mr. Alfaro offers tremendous leadership experience with nonprofit Boards that will be a great asset as MetroStage works toward building its new fully equipped, state of the art performing space in Old Town North. In fact, MetroStage is the centerpiece and has been designated the Arts Anchor as part of the Arts and Cultural District.
