Celebrate the holidays at the Old Bull and Bush, a classic British music hall full of mayhem, holiday merriment, and, of course, music.
Featuring favorite moments and music from the beloved holiday show Christmas at the Old Bull and Bush seen at MetroStage in 2017 and 2018.
“Down at the Old Bull and Bush” you will experience a classic British music hall experience. From “Spotted Dick,” and “Let’s All Go Down the Strand!” to ”Danny Boy” and a visit with the Cratchit family.
Corny jokes from those ubiquitous Christmas crackers, beautiful poignant moments in song and stories, and a sing-along with this illustrious cast, an unforgettable evening and delightful way to celebrate the holiday season.
Bios
Catherine Flye (Miss Florrie Forde) has appeared in several productions at MetroStage including Rapture, for which she received a Helen Hayes nomination, SeaMarks, For the Pleasure of Seeing Her Again, The Crummel’s Christmas Carol, The Real Inspector Hound, George Don’t Do That!, Shakespeare’s Will and Christmas at the Old Bull and Bush. She graduated from London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and has worked extensively in the Washington DC metropolitan area, writing, acting and directing. Acting credits include principal roles at many theatres in Washington DC, including The Folger, The Shakespeare Theatre, Arena Stage and 1st Stage. As Artistic Director of Interact Theatre Company, she wrote and produced over 45 commissioned plays and entertainments. She has been nominated thirteen times for Washington’s Helen Hayes Awards and her production of The Pirates of Penzance won the Award for Outstanding Musical. She is a recipient of The Mary Goldwater Award for her contribution to theatre in the Washington metropolitan area, and in 2019 she received the Anderson Hopkins Award for Excellence in the Theatre Arts.
Andrew Ross Wynn (Mr. Chairman) began his professional career in the D.C. area performing with many companies including The Kennedy Center, Arena Stage, the Folger Shakespeare Library, Woolly Mammoth, Washington Stage Guild, the Round House and with Catie Flye’s Interact Theatre Company. He played Magwitch in Great Expectations and was nominated for a Helen Hayes Award as the Major General in The Pirates of Penzance, both Interact productions at the Folger Theatre. He then moved to Los Angeles where he worked in film, television, and theater. Mr. Wynn won an Ovation award for his work in 3-D Theatrical's production of Parade and after returning to the DC area, he became a licensed Clinical Social Worker as well as continuing his work in the theatre
SGM (Ret) Bob Mcdonald (Mr. George “Georgie” Lushwood) served as Group Leader and a member of the U.S. Army Chorus for over 26 years, retiring in 2020.In this capacity he performed regularly at the White House, and for visiting dignitaries from across the globe. Bob has performed at such venues as The Kennedy Center, the Folger Theatre, AMP by Strathmore, Wolf Trap, Signature Theatre, MetroStage (Christmas at the Old Bull and Bush in 2017) and with The Interact Theatre Company in several entertainments including Down at The Old Bull and Bush! He has also performed regionally in many opera roles, with symphony orchestras,and with his popular Sinatra tribute. Bob is a familiar face to Washington Capitals fans, currently in his 31st season of singing the hockey team's National Anthem. He has also sung the National Anthem for many other professional sports events across the country, including the Super Bowl, and for Game 5 of the 2019 World Series.
Rachel Elezi (Miss Daisy May) is equally at home in opera and musical theatre,recent engagements include her Off-Broadway debut in The Little Matchgirl, the Southern US Tour of We’ll Meet Again: A New American Musical, and made her Lincoln Center debut as part of the Bernstein Centenial celebration Lenny @ 100. She has performed as a soloist throughout Italy, Germany and Lithuania. Rachel’s opera roles include Tamara (The Demon), Clorinda (La Cenerentola), Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro), Sandmann (Hänsel und Gretel), and Medea (Il Giasone). She can also be heard on the Naxos Records original cast recording of Louis Karchin’s new opera, Jane Eyre. Rachel holds an MM in Vocal Performance from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music and a BA in Vocal Performance and Classical Theatre from Case Western Reserve University. She is also a classically trained violinist.
Joe Walsh (Maestro Peabody) is an accomplished conductor, music director and pianist. He was Music Director at MetroStage for A Child’s Christmas in Wales, Master Class, Christmas at the Old Bull and Bush and George, Don’t Do That!. He was music director for The King and I with Broadway veterans Lisa Vroman and Kevin Grey at Lyric Opera Virginia. Joe has worked with the In Series in Washington D.C., as well as the Amalfi Coast Music Festival in Italy for five summers. Joe was involved in the musical preparation of more than 65 productions at Virginia Opera, where he served for 17 years. He is Associate Professor of Music and Theater at George Mason University where he serves as music director for Broadway musicals and opera productions. Joe has been music director at Riverside Dinner Theater, The Delaware Children’s Theatre and Three Little Bakers Dinner Theater in Wilmington, Delaware. He is an active recitalist, accompanying classical voice recitals and Broadway cabarets. He is always thrilled to return to MetroStage at the Lyceum for these special Cabaret performances with friend and colleague Catie Flye.
